The Native American Communications Office (NACO) of United Methodist Communications seeks to help Native American congregations and individuals identify and use resources which will help them in their ministry and personal enrichment. Such resources are available from the denomination and other sources.

The office helps non-Native congregations and individuals understand and appreciate the history, cultures and special concerns of Native American people. Through this kind of assistance, it is hoped that Native Americans -- the smallest ethnic minority in the denomination -- would become a meaningful part of the larger, primarily Anglo denomination. It is the belief of the office that Native Americans have much to contribute to the larger denomination and society.

NACO participates in the broader community of indigenous people by assisting in the communication of ideas, events and culture. The office also seeks justice for Native people in the church and the broader community. As a Native voice, NACO serves to address the Native community itself as a tool for dialogue and communication.

To accomplish its goals, NACO seeks to identify new communications opportunities and strengthen existing grassroots programs. NACO works to enable and uplift individuals and programs which serve the Native community in innovative and effective ways.
